Continuing Professional Development Courses

 

The Office of Instructional Technology sponsors Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses offered by Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) three times a year: fall, spring and summer.  Interested participants can view complete course descriptions and register using the BCPS online registration information.  Employees of BCPS are eligible to take any of the courses, as appropriate, free of charge. FAQs for Participants

Maryland Teacher Technology Standards - Module I

Prerequisites:

The goal of this experience is to help educators become proficient with Standard I of the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards.  Participants will consider the impact of the overwhelming amount of information on their personal and professional practice.

Prerequisites:

The goal of the Digital Citizenship module is to prepare you, as an educator, to become proficient with Standard III of the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards. This standard requires that teachers demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use.

Prerequisites:

The goal of the Integrating Technology module is to prepare you, as an educator, to be proficient with Standard V of the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards. Standard V focuses on the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction. It requires that teachers to be able to design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate the use of technology in a curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem solving, communication, and/or collaboration.

Multimedia Tools in the Classroom

  Online This is an online course with a mandatory synchronous session via Blackboard Collaborate and optional synchronous "Help Sessions"  Participants must complete and submit all assignments by he end of the course to receive CPD credit.

Prerequisites:

Participants will engage in a five-week (15-hour) synchronous and asynchronous online course in order to gain an understanding of what the term multimedia means, why we should be using multimedia tools in our classrooms, and how we can assess the use of multimedia tools in our classrooms. Participants will engage in online discussions, projects, brainstorming, collaborative writing, and content creation. Participants will use the online course to guide their creation of multimedia lessons and activities to use in the classroom.

Using a Classroom Wiki for Communication and Collaboration

 Online This is an online course with a mandatory face to face session  and optional synchronous "Help Sessions" via Blackboard Collaborate.  Participants must complete and submit all assignments by the end of the course to receive CPD credit.

Prerequisites:

 This course prepares K12 teachers and professional staff to teach and facilitate online learning for both students and professional development courses.
It provides a learning experience in the teaching and facilitation of pre-developed and facilitator ready fully-online courses. It provides a foundation in methods, skills, processes and best practices for teaching and facilitating a completely online course. This course assumes that the following content is present in a facilitator-ready course: instructional content, discussion prompts, and assessments. The course does not cover the design (other than general theory) of materials, the creation of assessments, or the use of course content with face-to face students

ActivInspire and the Interactive Whiteboard - Level 1

Prerequisites:

This course is designed for participants who have limited or no experience with interactive whiteboard technologies and are interested in developing a basic understanding of the Promethean ActivInspire software.  Participants will begin to apply skills/tools learned in ActivInspire to flipchart pages and will reflect on skills/tools which enhance student engagement.

ActivInspire and the Interactive Whiteboard - Level 2

 1 MSDE Credit 11-12-03


Prerequisites:

This course is designed for participants who have had some experience with interactive whiteboard technologies through the completion of the 1 credit CPD course, Using Interactive Whiteboard Technologies.  Participants will develop strategies to engage students and differentiate instruction by learning additional features of the Promethean ActivInsprie software. Participants will begin to develop flipcharts that meet content standards and enhance student interactivity.

Using Interactive Whiteboard Technologies - Mimio

Prerequisites:

Classroom, special area, and resource teachers will acquire the ability to select and use MimioStudio interactive teaching tools to promote rigorous instruction. Learning experiences will include large-and small-group instruction, content-based brainstorming sessions, demonstration of Mimio equipment, and practice in creating interactive activities using MimioStudio software. Activities will focus on how to use MimioStudio to engage students in critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication in order to meet Goal 1 of the Blueprint for Progress.

Using Interactive Technologies to Engage Students in Rigorous Instruction

Prerequisites:

Participants will acquire the ability to select and use interactive teaching tools effectively to promote rigorous instruction. Activities will focus on how to engage students in critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication using these available technologies. Teachers will exit this course with technology skills in the use of 21st century tools, including Every Student Response Systems with Interactive Whiteboard Technology; Document Cameras; Web Conferencing Using Safari Live; Low-tech Tools in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; and Alternative Wireless Interactive Tools. In addition, participants will gain an understanding that effective use of these tools - in conjunction with questioning and student-centered activities - will support critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. Participants may include classroom, special area, and resource teachers.
